The Power Move - What to Do When You Need a New You

Updated: Nov 22, 2021

Needing a recharge? Feeling stupid because you don't speak the language? Can't find the right jeans to fit your new pasta weight?

To all of the questions above, I have answered yes to every single one. Believe me, you are not alone. If you're in the same position that I am, with being new to the student exchange year, than I feel for you and I am so down to being your sister guide through this mess of unfamiliarity.

If you're feeling as lost as I was feeling in my first months, I have the solution for you. You don't recognize yourself anymore, and not in a good way. You feel as though you've lost yourself and you're not following the path that you thought you'd be walking when you envisioned your lifestyle while abroad. It's okay, you'll get through this, and it's not as hard as you think.

I like to call this the power move. It's the process of reinventing yourself without having to invest in a workout plan, purchase all the organic vegetables for your new vegan meal plan, or cancel your netflix subscription. You'll still be able to enjoy carbs, I won't be forcing you to run a 5k everyday, and you can still enjoy your reality T.V. shows and RomCom's. This power move is your way of feeling like yourself again, not feeling like an exhausted version of you that's constantly craving chocolate.

Just follow these simple steps. . .

  1. Buy yourself a new outfit (and make sure those jeans fit YOU, don't try to fit the jeans)

  2. Take a walk, reflect on what you want your new life to look like, think of the first thing you'll have to do in order to get there, now make the first effort to take that step.

  3. Eat something that brings you joy, not something that brings you guilt.

  4. Make a new playlist for when you leave the house, if you're not exiting your home feeling like a bad bitch, something is wrong.

If you finish all of these steps and don't feel like a new you is about to take form, or at least don't feel a little better and more inspired, than I have failed you. I give you full permission to email me and rant.
