One of the first things I noticed when I moved to Europe was the fashion. It's almost as if all Europeans were required to take a fashion course before they were required to learn the language. Everyone is fashionable, the women, the men, the old man on the corner in his all black fit, even the babies. . . . I've seen a few wearing Polo Ralph Lauren for heaven's sake. They exited the womb and they're already more fashionable then me.
When the average person references a culture known for class and elegance, they are referencing Europe, so let's dress European together. . . .
Although they make it look super intricate and like they're outfit took a lot of thought. . . .it didn't.
There are a few rules to follow, and if you follow them, you will always look like your life is together and like you don't have a load of laundry at home waiting to be done and a few hundred emails to answer.
To start slow, let's say that you don't have to follow all these rules at once, just one at a time:)
Rule 1: Maximum 3 colors
- make sure they work together though
Rule 2: Matching accessories
- Belt, shoes, and purse must be in the same color range.
- It can be all brown, or all white, or all black, just try to make them match
Rule 3: Checker
- If you want to only be wearing 2 colors, make sure they follow each other.
- If your top is black, than your pants must be white, than your shoes must be black. . . .and hey, follow rule 2 in this process. If your shoes are black, what color does that make your belt and purse? BLACK
Rule 4: Monochrome is always acceptable
- nothing says 'all my laundry is done and my emails are answered' than an all black outfit or all white outfit or all brown outfit or all. . . .. you get the point.
Rule 5: Work with your tones
- If you have black hair and tan skin, wearing something that contrasts that will bring them out even more.
- If you have blonde hair, wearing black will make it look even blonder
- If you have a warm undertone, specific color tones are supposed to add 5 years of sleep to you face, while some tones can take away a decade of sleep. . .so choose wisely.
Basically, to make it elementary, minimalism + a jacket = European
- Neutral tones & a fall jacket are a European's best friend
- Black, white, tan, grey, brown, and the occasional pops of color that fit with your tone (for example, mine are blue and green).
